Departmental Procedure of Bridge works
The
procedure is summarized below:
1. Survey
data for a proposed bridge site is to be submitted by the Field Executive Engineer.
2. The
proposed site is visited by the concern Design Unit Executive Engineer or SE,
Design depending upon the length of the bridge.
3. Inspection
Note is issued to the Field Executive Engineer after the site visit.
4. Once
complete data is available with the Design Division, Hydraulics of the proposed
bridge is carried out and RTL, Length and other details are finalized.
5. General
Arrangement Drawing (GAD) is then prepared and the same along with Technical
note is issued to the concern field Executive Engineer.
6. Once
the estimate, on the basis of GAD issued, is prepared and submitted by the
Field Executive Engineer to Design Circle, the same is checked for the
provisions and it is countersigned and issued to the Field Executive Engineer.
7. If
the tenders are invited on B1/B2 form, detail design drawings are issued to the
Field for construction as per the requirement of the Field Executive Engineer.
8. If
the tenders are invited on Lump sum basis (“C” form Tender) on contractor’s own
design, Design Criteria for the project is issued to the field. After
finalization of contract, the structural designs and drawings prepared by the
Contractor’s consultant are proof checked by Design Circle.
Codes and Specifications
Deputy Engineers in the Designs Circle are expected to prepare proposal, undertake detailed designs andhandle scrutiny of contractor’s designs for bridges. Therefore, they are required to have a knowledge of the various IRC / IS codes and specifications required for design of bridges.
